Re: Unsuccessfully trying to relactate for 4 months...

Hi HeatherMist...glad your back! Tell us more about goats rue. How does it work and if you only have a few clear drops, will it help at all. I have been at this a very long time and cannot get more than a few drops. Thanks1

Heathermist,

I actually have two bottles of Goat's Rue from MotherLove (and 1 bottle of Milk Plus, I think it's called). I tried it inconsistently for a a few weeks when I was dry and first trying to relactate, but I didn't really notice a different. Now that I am producing some, I'm going to try it again. I'm just so bad at taking pills so frequently throughout the day.

You have to take it consistently and it can take more than a few weeks to take effect. I know midwives swear by it (but like everything else, it doesn't work for everyone).

I know - remembering is hard. I've always been pretty good at that - and unfortunately I don't have any tricks!

Goats rue is believed to be beneficial to build breast tissue. I know that midwives swear by the stuff. Be careful - it can reduce blood sugar levels, so if you take metformin or other meds for diabetes, I'd advise not taking this particular herb. It also promotes sweating and urination (I did pee a lot while I took it, but I didn't notice a lot more sweating and I took it in the thick of a south Texas spring - of course, I also drink a ton of water, so perhaps it was all just masked!).

IGT, which is what I recommended the goats rue for, is also known as hypoplastic breast syndrome (I didn't take it for this, I took it to boost the development of alveoli as I've never had a child to term), a condition where the breasts simply don't develop normally. Women with this condition typically have tubular rather than round breasts (you know, grandma breasts emoticon - only they have these shape from puberty onward rather than as a factor of age).

IGT is common with PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome - although you don't have to have PCOS to have IGT.

It's been anecdotally reported that goats rue has a positive effect on women who have this condition (it was first noticed in, of all things, sheep who routinely eat this naturally-occuring herb in with their grass as they graze).

I don't know that it would help with production; I don't know enough about it to say. But I believe it boosted tissue development in my own experience (again, not everything works for every body or everybody), and it took about four weeks for me to actually see (and feel) what I took to be the effects. I took it for about nine weeks if I remember correctly; I ordered the caplets from Amazon from Motherlove (the tincture is, to say the least, VILE as hell - but I've taken it as well; More Milk Plus I think was the name of it. The caplets have the tincture of goats rue dose in them so at least you don't have to taste it. Trust me - it's disgusting).

Really, that's all I know about the stuff. You can take it with alfalfa (which also lowers blood sugar, so be careful), but because of its blood sugar lowering capabilities I never took either of them on an empty stomach (this is reminding me my alfalfa stock is getting low...thanks for the bug in my ear emoticon ).

Thanks so much for the info, HeatherMist! It makes me more hopeful. I am definitely going to try taking the Goat's Rue for more than 2 months in hopes to build some breast tisse.

I and my uncle (who is an Ob-Gyn) suspect that I have PCOS, clinically at least. I have almost all the symptoms, except for maybe the severe hirsuitism and infertility. I haven't had any tests to confirm this, though.

Do you have IGT? And how much of a difference in your breast tissue did you notice after the 9 weeks that you were on the Goat's Rue?

I don't have IGT that I'm aware of clinically. I know that alveoli develop and mature rapidly while pregnant and at birth and I've never carried a child to term, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I think it worked.

I had vicious prickliness in my breasts for about two weeks after I started taking the Goats Rue, and that took about two more weeks to subside. (I only had that experience the first time I took it; the second time, I took that awful nursing tincture and while I believed it helped and it stopped me feeling like a pill popping junkie, it tasted like - well, it was nasty as hell. I didn't have the prickly feelings the second go round.) I can't directly attribute it to the goats rue, but I did notice that my breasts felt different - I can't explain how - more SUBSTANTIAL is the only word I can come up with. And if I remember correctly, it took about four or five weeks for that to become obvious to me.

I think it worked.

Also, the first time I took it, I wasn't taking Dom or any other stuff to produce milk. I was taking it slow and concentrating on the hardware over the software. emoticon
